By default, the strings are selected depending on the HTML elements wrapping them. If you are looking for a way to divide strings into individual content by wrapping a <span> tag around them, you can use the following plugin:
This custom plugin is useful for dividing strings into translatable parts in places where HTML commands are not allowed, but shortcode is.
For example, if you want to divide the string “Name: John” into individual the individual strings “Name” and “John” you can use the following shortcode command: [tp-individual-string content=”Name:”]. The custom plugin needs to be activated for this to work.
